The Torkor Circuit Court in the Ketu South Municipality has sentenced Akpalu Prince, described in court as a head porter, to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to a robbery charge.
According to the prosecution’s account, the incident occurred on July 13, 2026, at about 6pm at Ave Maria Junction in Aflao, Volta Region.
Chief Inspector McRae Pomevor told the court that the complainant, an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service stationed at Aflao, was waiting by the roadside to board a motorbike while holding an iPhone 12.
The prosecution said Prince allegedly attacked the complainant and forcibly took the phone before attempting to flee. It said the complainant held onto his shirt but was pushed against a wall as he escaped from the scene.
An alarm was raised and members of the public pursued and apprehended the accused a short distance away, the prosecutor told the court. A search reportedly recovered the iPhone 12, which the complainant identified as hers.
The phone was valued at GH¢3,600, according to the prosecution. Prince was handed to police along with the recovered device, after which a formal complaint was made.
The prosecution further told the court that Prince admitted the offence in a caution statement during police interrogation. Following investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
The court, presided over by Joseph Ofosu Behome, convicted Prince on his own plea and imposed the 10-year sentence with hard labour.
