- The Ashanti Region recorded 132 fire incidents in January 2026, down from 187 cases in January 2025
- The 45-case reduction reflects improved fire prevention and response measures
- Some major market and shop fires raised public concern despite the overall decline
The Ashanti Region recorded 132 fire outbreaks between January 1 and 31, 2026, representing a decline from the 187 incidents reported during the same period in 2025.
In an interview with Citi News on Monday, February 2, the Ashanti Regional Fire Command’s Public Relations Officer, DO III Peter Addai, noted that although several major fires this year have raised public concern due to extensive damage to markets, shops, and other properties, the overall data points to progress.
He explained that the reduced figures demonstrate improved fire prevention and emergency response efforts across the region, stressing that there is no need for public panic based on the broader statistics.
“We have managed to reduce fire incidents by about 45 cases, which is very encouraging,” he said. “Considering the serious damage a single fire can cause, this reduction is a significant achievement.”
The Fire Command has therefore urged residents and business operators to remain alert and adhere strictly to fire safety regulations, emphasizing that sustained public cooperation is essential to maintaining the decline in fire incidents across the region.
