The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed that several of its staff members were violently attacked while travelling from Kasoa to work on Thursday morning.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Richmond Rockson, disclosed that the assailants were officers of the Ghana Police Service.

“Our initial information suggested the attackers were national security operatives, but further verification confirmed they were police officers. One is from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), while the others belong to the Emergency Response Unit,” he explained.

Rockson said three staff members suffered minor injuries, while one individual sustained critical injuries and was taken to the Police Hospital for treatment, where he was later detained.

“As of yesterday, he was limping and complaining of severe pain in his jaw and back. The Minister has advised him to seek a second medical opinion to ensure he receives proper care,” Rockson added.

He noted that the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, is deeply disturbed by the incident, has strongly condemned the attack, and is committed to closely following the case to ensure justice is delivered.

Video footage of the incident, first circulated by The1957News on social media, shows police officers engaging violently with Ministry staff.

According to reports, the confrontation began when the Ministry’s bus encountered a pickup truck parked almost in the middle of the road, obstructing the bus from merging onto the main highway.

After the bus managed to pass, a passenger is said to have confronted the pickup driver over the obstruction. Shortly afterward, the pickup allegedly chased the bus at high speed, dangerously cutting across it twice before the occupants attempted to force their way into the bus, with one individual being dragged through a window.
