A group of twelve armed robbers on Tuesday, December 2, launched a violent attack on the Nkaseim Police Station in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region, seizing weapons and freeing a detainee before proceeding to commit a string of robberies in the community.

Ahafo Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Boakye, reported that the heavily armed gang arrived at the station around 5:15 p.m. and demanded access to the armoury.

“Upon arrival, the robbers ordered the counter officer to show them where the weapons were kept. She initially directed them to the wrong location, which angered them. She eventually led them to the right place, and they took the guns,” Chief Inspector Boakye told Adom News.

He added that a suspect inside the cells began pleading with the gang to rescue him.

“There was a suspect in the cells who cried out for help. The robbers shot the lock, freed him, and he fled with them,” he said.

After leaving the police station with the stolen weapons and the freed detainee, the group continued their attack in the town.

“They went to a gold shop and took an unspecified amount of money. They also robbed a cocoa purchasing centre, the Asutifi Rural Bank, and assaulted a mobile money vendor, taking GH¢12,000,” Chief Inspector Boakye recounted.

He later confirmed that the freed suspect had been rearrested.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, has deployed additional officers to Nkaseim to support a major manhunt for the gang.

Chief Inspector Boakye assured residents that police are working relentlessly to restore security in the area.

“We want the community to remain calm. Investigations are underway, and we are doing everything possible to protect them and ensure the robbers are brought to justice,” he added.
