Story Highlights

  • Coach Abdul Karim Zito insists the team did not deserve to lose and praised their performance
  • Kotoko created chances but struggled to convert them into goals

Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito has insisted that his team did not deserve to leave empty-handed after their 2-1 defeat to Basake Holy Stars on Wednesday in an entertaining Ghana Premier League clash at AAK II Park.

The loss ended Kotoko’s unbeaten run in the 2025/26 season and gave a much-needed boost to the relegation-threatened hosts.

Reflecting on the setback, Zito admitted his disappointment but maintained that his side performed well despite the result.

“Honestly, we should have won this game,” he said. “We didn’t play badly; we played good football and created chances. Scoring was once again the problem, but losing wasn’t deserved.”

Zito emphasised that Kotoko remain strong contenders for the title. “We are still chasing. We have 20 points, and the leaders [Aduana Stars] have 23, so it’s only a one-match difference. We are still very much in the hunt,” he added.

Kotoko currently sit fourth on the league table with 20 points and will return to action on Sunday when they host Medeama SC in a Matchday 12 encounter at the Baba Yara.
