- Says such issues fall under traditional authority, not police jurisdiction
- Instructs that any land-related complaints be directed to the Manhyia Palace
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has cautioned the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, to avoid involvement in chieftaincy and land-related disputes within the region.
According to the Asantehene, such issues fall outside the jurisdiction of the Police Service and are under his traditional authority as the ruler of Asanteman.
He advised that any chief or individual who approaches the Police Commander with matters concerning land should be referred directly to him for resolution.
Otumfuo further instructed that if the Commander becomes aware of any ongoing land disputes, he should promptly report them to the Palace for the necessary action.
The Asantehene also urged DCOP Akoto to intensify efforts against crime, particularly theft and other social vices, to ensure lasting peace and security in the Ashanti Region.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II gave the advice when the new Police Commander paid a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
During the visit, the outgoing Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, expressed gratitude to His Majesty for his guidance and blessings throughout his tenure before officially introducing his successor, DCOP Akoto.
The delegation accompanying the outgoing commander included CP Francis Kouame Somian, Deputy Regional Commander; Chief Supt. Frederick Hammond, Manhyia Divisional Commander; and DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Regional Police PRO.
