Tempane MP Condemns Killing of GIS Officers

The killing of two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers in Nagani and the alleged assault on civilians by military personnel in Basyonde, both in the Upper East Region, have drawn strong condemnation from the Member of Parliament for Tempane, Madam Akanvariba.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 3, 2025, Madam Akanvariba described the incidents as “deeply troubling and unacceptable.” She expressed profound sorrow over the loss of one officer, wished the injured officer a speedy recovery, and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Immigration Service.

“It is with deep sorrow and grave concern that I address two tragic and deeply disturbing incidents that have occurred in the Tempane Constituency within the past 24 hours,” she stated. “Acts of violence of this nature are reprehensible and a direct assault on the rule of law.”

The MP also condemned the alleged actions of certain military personnel who reportedly invaded Basyonde following the Nagani shooting, attacking residents and injuring several people. She noted that the incident has intensified fear and insecurity among constituents.
