  • Protest aimed at ending recurring conflict in the Oti Region
  • Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang expected to receive the petition

A 52-year-old teacher at Nkwanta South Senior High School, Adzoe Kwame Atta Nutifafa, has embarked on a 60-kilometre peace walk from Nkwanta to Dambai to advocate for an end to the persistent conflict in the area.

Mr. Adzoe, who has dedicated several years to teaching in Nkwanta, said he’s heartbroken by how violence continues to rob children of their future.

“Enough is enough. The violence harming our youth and innocent lives must end,” he stated during the walk.

Upon reaching Dambai, Mr. Adzoe presented a petition to the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, which was received on his behalf by Regional Coordinating Director Rev. Harry Nii Kwatei Owoo. The petition is expected to be forwarded to Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

Key Demands in the Petition

Mr. Adzoe’s petition calls for:

  • Safe access to schools
  • Improved educational infrastructure
  • Deployment of qualified teachers
  • Protection of children’s right to education

He emphasized that ongoing tensions are discouraging children from attending school, warning of a long-term impact on development if the crisis continues.

He also appealed to Vice President Opoku-Agyemang—herself a mother and former educator—to intervene, given her understanding of the importance of education and the devastating effects of conflict on students.

Response from Authorities

Rev. Owoo assured that the Regional Minister remains committed to peacebuilding, adding that sustainable development depends on unity and stability.

Paul Akonor of the National Peace Council also reiterated the Council’s dedication to working with stakeholders to resolve the conflict, which he noted is affecting the entire Oti Region.

Public Reaction

Local residents commended Mr. Adzoe’s courage and selflessness, describing his peaceful protest as a powerful call to action. Many expressed concern over the toll the conflict is taking on innocent children and urged the Oti Regional House of Chiefs and the Peace Council to step up efforts toward a lasting resolution.
