At least 10 people have died and over 40 others have been injured after a freight train collided with a double-decker bus in central Mexico, according to local authorities.

The crash occurred on Monday morning as a bus from the Herradura de Plata company was entering an industrial area near Atlacomulco, just outside Mexico City.

CCTV footage shared by local media shows the bus attempting to cross a railway line before being struck by the oncoming train.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City, the train’s operator, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged drivers to obey railroad signals to prevent such tragedies.

Both the bus and train companies are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Many of the injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Photos from the scene show the bus with its roof partially torn off, a shattered front windshield, and significant damage to the rear.

The State of Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the deceased include seven women and three men. Several of the injured remain in critical condition.

This tragic incident adds to a series of deadly bus accidents in Mexico this year. In May, 21 people were killed in a crash involving a bus, tanker, and van. Earlier in February, another bus crash claimed at least 41 lives in southern Mexico.
