- Two university students impersonated candidates; each jailed for 6 months
The Kasoa-Ofaakor District Magistrate Court has sentenced three individuals to a combined 20 months in prison for their roles in exam malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Among those convicted are Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS, along with two university students—Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James. They were arrested in Kasoa while committing various examination-related offences.
Armah, who was acting as an invigilator, was found with leaked Social Studies Paper 1 answers on his mobile phone, which he was dictating to students. He was fined 80 penalty units and sentenced to eight months in prison.
Nkansah, a first-year student at Accra Technical University, was caught impersonating a candidate—Quayson Francis Atta of Ghana College SHS. He received a six-month jail sentence and a fine of 80 penalty units.
Similarly, James, a Level 100 student at the University of Ghana, was sentenced to six months in prison and fined after impersonating his twin brother, Amedeka Justice, during the same exam.
During a visit to one of the examination centres, Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, Chief Executive of the Awutu Senya East Municipality, identified issues with candidate seating arrangements and announced that new measures would be implemented to curb future violations.
Municipal Education Director, Frank-Etrue Hayford, strongly condemned the malpractice and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
