A carbide cylinder explosion at Suame Magazine Zone 18 has left a man in his 40s critically injured.

The victim, who works as a driver’s assistant, was at a mechanic shop for vehicle repairs when the explosion occurred.

According to eyewitness Kwame Appiah, a sudden, loud blast rang out from the cylinder. When they rushed to the scene, they found the man lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries.

He was first rushed to the Tafo Government Hospital but was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care.

“This is the first time we’ve witnessed something like this at Suame Magazine since I started working here,” the eyewitness said, noting that the explosion occurred while the shop owner was away.

“The man was simply waiting for his master and the mechanic to fix the vehicle. No one knows exactly how the carbide cylinder exploded,” he added.

The incident has sparked fear among many artisans at Suame Magazine who regularly use carbide cylinders in their work.
