DVLA Expands Access to Road Licensing Nationwide

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has introduced a new Lorry Terminal Project aimed at making its services more accessible—especially for commercial drivers.

This initiative enables drivers to access essential DVLA services directly at lorry terminals across the country, eliminating the need to visit traditional DVLA offices. Available services include:

  • New driver’s licence applications
  • Licence renewals
  • Replacement of lost or expired licences
  • Foreign licence conversion
  • International driving permits
  • Licence upgrades

DVLA CEO, Julius Neequaye Kotey, explained that the project is part of a broader strategy to improve efficiency and enhance service delivery within the transport sector.

“We are launching the DVLA Lorry Terminal Project to ensure that every qualified driver can conveniently acquire and maintain their certification,” Mr. Kotey said. “Licences must be renewed two years after issuance, again after another two years, and replaced a year following the second renewal—each process including a mandatory eye examination.”

To support this, DVLA is partnering with the Ghana Optometric Association to provide on-site vision testing at terminal locations.

Mr. Kotey urged commercial drivers to take full advantage of the initiative:

“While open to the general public, this project is specially tailored for you.”

Drivers at the GPRTU Circle Kaneshie Station welcomed the initiative, saying it will save them both time and money, while helping them stay compliant with road safety regulations.
