The Ministry of Education has announced an additional funding package of $117.1 million under the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP) and its second phase of additional financing (AF2). The funds are aimed at scaling up targeted interventions in basic education across the country.
This new financing—supported by the World Bank, Global Partnership for Education, and other development partners—will go toward teacher training, school grants, and performance-based incentives to enhance learning outcomes in basic schools.
The announcement was made during the inaugural meeting of the GALOP Project Oversight Committee, held on Tuesday, July 15.
Speaking on behalf of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who also chairs the committee, a Ministry representative stressed the need for efficient implementation and close monitoring of all program components.
“GALOP AF2 brings in $117.1 million to extend targeted support to basic schools. Every element—from teacher development to school grants and performance rewards—must be strategically implemented and closely tracked,” the statement emphasized.
The Minister also highlighted that the committee’s success will depend on the clarity of its direction, quality of oversight, and ability to respond to real-time challenges in the education system.
The meeting convened key stakeholders, including development partners, heads of implementing agencies, and World Bank representatives, to review implementation strategies and align efforts for impactful execution.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strong governance and adaptable implementation, ensuring that the funding delivers measurable improvements in teaching quality and student learning nationwide.
