Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah Appointed GSS Board Chair

Former Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, has been named Chairman of the newly reconstituted Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) Board. The seven-member board was officially sworn in on Monday, July 7, 2025.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko urged the board to uphold the highest standards in delivering accurate, timely, and reliable data to support national development and informed policymaking.
In his remarks, Dr. Baah expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for their confidence in his leadership. He pledged to collaborate closely with the board and GSS management to strengthen Ghana’s national data infrastructure.
A respected economist and former labour leader, Dr. Baah is widely known for his advocacy on behalf of workers and his contributions to policy reform during his tenure at the TUC. His background in development economics and governance is expected to enhance the strategic direction of the GSS.

- Mrs. Nelly Mireku – Director of Research, Ministry of Finance
- Dr. Zakaria Mumuni
- Prof. Mariama Awumbila
- Dr. Philomena Nyarko
- Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor
The board is tasked with providing strategic guidance and policy oversight to support GSS in delivering high-quality official statistics that inform national planning, resource allocation, and governance.
