NIA Staff Suspend Nationwide Strike

- NIA staff, under PSWU, began a nationwide strike on June 24, 2025
- NIA expresses appreciation to the union and public for patience
- All registration centres and offices to resume normal operations on June 30
Staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA), represented by the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), have temporarily called off their nationwide strike.
The strike, which began on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, stemmed from prolonged, unresolved negotiations with the Ministry of Finance over the payment of the Operational Support Allowance—the only supplementary benefit received by NIA staff.
In a public notice issued on Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs, the NIA announced the suspension of the strike. The decision followed extensive discussions with key stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Finance, and PSWU leadership.
“Management acknowledges and appreciates the goodwill shown by the Union and assures all staff that their legitimate concerns are a priority and will continue to receive urgent attention,” the statement read.
The NIA also apologized for any inconvenience the strike may have caused and expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and understanding.
The Authority confirmed that all its offices and registration centres across the country will fully resume operations on Monday, June 30, 2025.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality, efficient, and dependable identification services to Ghanaians in line with its national mission.
