  • Immediate suspension of all social events on campus
  • Precautionary measures reactivated, strict adherence urged

The University of Ghana has announced an immediate suspension of all social events on campus following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.

The announcement follows confirmation on Monday, June 23, of a resurgence in cases within the university. In response, the university is urging all members of its community to adopt precautionary measures without delay.

A statement released by the university’s health directorate on Thursday, June 26, revealed that both suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected on campus. As a result, health protocols have been reactivated, and heightened vigilance is being enforced.

“All staff, students, and visitors are strongly encouraged to stay alert and strictly follow all recommended preventive guidelines to minimize the risk of infection and curb community transmission,” the statement read.

In line with this, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs has issued a directive suspending all events and week-long celebrations organized by student groups. This includes activities planned by the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), as well as departmental and school associations.

The directive, signed by Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, emphasized that the move is a precautionary step to protect the health and safety of the university population.

“These measures have become necessary to ensure the health and well-being of the university community,” the statement emphasized.

University authorities are calling on all students and campus organizations to fully comply with the directive and actively support efforts to control the spread of the virus.
