Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a key subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, is set to expand its waste management operations into Burkina Faso. This development follows a high-level meeting between Zoomlion’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, with Dr. Agyepong leading a delegation that met with the Prime Minister, alongside Burkina Faso’s Minister for the Environment, Roger Baro, and the Burkinabe Ambassador to Ghana, Major Colonel David Kabré.

This engagement marks a major milestone toward launching an integrated waste management project in Burkina Faso. The initiative will cover the entire waste management value chain, including waste collection, recovery, recycling, and treatment.

The project stems from ongoing discussions between the governments of Ghana and Burkina Faso, including the Ghanaian President’s visit to Burkina Faso on March 10. It aligns with broader South-South cooperation efforts aimed at promoting sustainable development and creating jobs.

With over two decades of experience and operations in 24 other African countries, Zoomlion intends to apply its proven Ghanaian waste management models and technologies to help address environmental challenges in Burkina Faso.

Prime Minister Ouédraogo described the initiative as a strategic move to strengthen African expertise and self-reliance, emphasizing its potential to boost youth employment and improve public health. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting investments that contribute to national development.

Dr. Agyepong, for his part, expressed confidence in the leadership of President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, praising his commitment to economic growth and job creation. He also announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Environment would soon be signed — a critical step before infrastructure development begins.

As part of the project’s local empowerment strategy, the Jospong Group plans to train Burkinabe youth in Ghana to manage the waste facilities and deliver related services in their home country.

“We are not going to export Ghanaian workers to Burkina Faso,” Dr. Agyepong affirmed. “We will train young Burkinabe people who will take full responsibility for managing waste in their country.”
