- Incident occurred in 2023 at Tape nightclub, Mayfair
- Brown is currently on world tour, released on £5M bail
Grammy Award-winning singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty on Friday, June 20, 2025, to a charge stemming from an alleged violent assault on a music producer at a London nightclub in 2023.
Appearing at Southwark Crown Court, the 36-year-old R&B star denied a single count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
Also entering a not guilty plea was Omololu Akinlolu, 38—known by his stage name “Hoody Baby”—a friend and fellow artist, who faces the same charge.
According to prosecutors, the two men assaulted producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023. Brown is accused of launching an unprovoked attack, hitting Diaw repeatedly with a bottle, then punching and kicking him in front of a crowd. The incident was reportedly captured on surveillance footage.
Brown was granted £5 million ($6.75 million) bail last month, allowing him to begin his world tour earlier in June.
The singer, who rose to fame as a teenager in 2005, won his first Grammy Award in 2011 for Best R&B Album (“F.A.M.E.”) and secured his second earlier this year with “11:11 (Deluxe)”.
Known for hits like “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You,” Brown’s tour began in Amsterdam on June 8 and is set to continue in North America this July.
