Amorim Faces Uncertainty After Europa League Defeat

- Ruben Amorim expresses willingness to leave Manchester United if the board and fans no longer want him
- Brennan Johnson's goal in the final condemns United to miss out on European football next season, leaving them in 16th place in the Premier League
- Despite the struggles, Amorim remains confident in his approach, calling for faith in his methods
Ruben Amorim has stated that he will leave Manchester United if the club’s board and fans no longer want him, following their Europa League final defeat to Spurs, which left him at his lowest point.
Brennan Johnson’s goal in the Bilbao final dashed United’s hopes of qualifying for European football next season, as they sit 16th in the Premier League, grappling with numerous issues both on and off the pitch. Amorim’s side has dropped to 13th in the league, having been knocked out of all three cup competitions under his management. Despite the setbacks, the Portuguese coach believes he is still the right person for the job. “If the board and fans feel I’m not the right man, I’ll leave the next day,” said Amorim. “But I won’t quit again. I am confident in my job and will not change the way I work.”
“I’m not here to defend myself—that’s not my style,” he continued. “I have nothing to prove to the fans. Right now, all I need is a little bit of faith.”
After the final, a disappointed Luke Shaw expressed his belief that Amorim is the right manager, but emphasized that every player needs to “question ourselves on if we’re good enough to be here.”
“We’re all gutted; this wasn’t the outcome we expected,” Shaw said. “But it’s not just tonight—this whole season has been far from good enough. We all need to ask ourselves if we’re good enough to be here.”
