Sammi Awuku Appointed as Vice President of SME Global

Sammi Awuku, former National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North in Ghana’s Eastern Region, has been appointed Vice President of SME Global for Africa.

In a letter dated March 10, 2025, signed by Lilia Heitz, Secretary-General of SME Global within the International Democracy Union (IDU), it states: “On behalf of the Executive Office of SME Global, I am happy to officially confirm your appointment as Vice-President of SME Global of the IDU.

“We are confident that your efforts will play a key role in advancing our mission and supporting impactful projects. We value your willingness to take on this role and look forward to collaborating with you to strengthen the global SME sector. Congratulations once again, and welcome to SME Global.”

As Vice President of SME Global for Africa, Sammi Awuku will play a vital role in driving initiatives that support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across Africa, promoting regulatory changes, and enhancing the role of SMEs in political and economic progress.

His appointment reflects a strong commitment to boosting entrepreneurship and ensuring SMEs thrive in a dynamic global market.

Sammi Awuku will collaborate closely with other Board Members of SME Global, including Jörgen Warborn, MEP, President of SME Global and Coordinator of the International Trade Committee for the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in Sweden; Randy Hoback, MP, Vice-President of SME Global and Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development in Canada; Hon. Todd McClay, MP, Vice-President of SME Global and Minister for Trade and Agriculture in New Zealand; Kevin Hollinrake, MP, Vice-President of SME Global and Shadow Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities in the United Kingdom; and Germana Figueroa Casas, MP, Vice-President of SME Global and Member of the Chamber of Deputies in Argentina.
