Ayo Edebiri shared that she was just having “a silly goofy time” when reflecting on how Elon Musk contributed to a lot of negativity directed at her.

The star of The Bear recently posted on social media about an incident from last year that led to racism and death threats against her.

Edebiri explained in her Instagram story that Musk had amplified a false post claiming she was being considered to replace Johnny Depp in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Musk had commented on the post on X, saying, “Disney sucks,” referring to the studio behind the franchise.

Edebiri wrote, “Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (I don’t know if it’s the #1 moment, but definitely top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I’d never even heard of because of this man.”

She also shared a screenshot of comedian Bill Burr criticizing Musk on NPR’s Fresh Air, joking in the caption, “Bill Burr. Every time!” with a bullseye emoji. Later, she posted a private message from a friend suggesting that Edebiri might be great for a Pirates movie, joking, “Wait no DEI, but I’ve changed my mind maybe we could make some money idk lmk.”

The actress, who has won multiple awards, appeared frustrated with the media sharing her Instagram stories as news. She wrote in a post on Wednesday, “Stop making my IG stories news. I’m just tryna have a silly goofy time.”
