“We Can’t Release WASSCE Results Without the Necessary Funds” – John Kapi

Story Highlights
  • WASSCE results delayed due to financial constraints
  • WAEC owes GH₵118m, needs GH₵25m for scanner repairs
  • Results release uncertain until funds are received

Students awaiting their 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results may have to wait until next year for their results, as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed that financial challenges are causing a delay in the process.

In an exclusive interview with Adom News, John Kapi, the Head of Public Relations at WAEC, revealed that the examination body has not yet received the arrears owed by the government for conducting the exams.

Mr. Kapi explained that the government currently owes WAEC approximately GH₵118 million. The situation is further complicated by the need for GH₵25 million to repair malfunctioning scanners, which are essential for processing objective test results.

With less than two weeks remaining in 2024, Mr. Kapi confirmed that, due to these financial challenges, there is no specific date set for the release of the results. He added that the office would break for Christmas on December 20, 2024, and if the necessary funds are released before then, the staff will be called back to the office to continue their work.

Mr. Kapi emphasized that without the required funds, WAEC is unable to complete the processes necessary to release the WASSCE results. He expressed concern over the current situation, noting that the office has never faced such frustrations, which have led to the delay in the results’ release.
