Damaged Akufo-Addo Statue Repaired at Effia-Nkwanta Repaired

Story Highlights
  • Akufo-Addo statue at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital repaired
  • Police investigate damage, cause still unclear
  • Calls for statue's removal continue among locals

The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, has been successfully repaired, restoring it to its original condition after sustaining damage.

Unveiled on November 6 to honor the President, the statue had previously garnered attention due to a noticeable gaping hole at the back of one leg. The cause of the damage remains unclear, and while some speculate it was the result of deliberate vandalism, others believe it could have been caused by a structural defect.

Following the damage, the Ghana Police Service initiated an investigation on December 16 to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Some local residents had previously expressed threats to have the statue removed, fueling suspicions of intentional destruction.

In contrast, other community members have raised concerns over the statue’s structural integrity, questioning whether the damage was accidental.

Despite the controversy, the damaged section of the statue has now been repaired, as confirmed by recent follow-up reports.
