A 48-year-old farmer, Stephen Alartey, is being hunted by the Upper Bobikuma Police for allegedly killing his wife and daughter at Esaase, a village near Upper Bobikuma in the Agona West District of the Central Region. According to a police source, Alartey used a cement block to hit both his wife, Aku Motso, 37, and their daughter, Ophelia Alartey, 7, on the head until they died, before fleeing the scene.
The police source revealed that on Thursday, December 12, 2024, Alartey had asked his wife and their three children, who were staying with their grandmother at Agona Kwaman, to join him at Esaase near Bobikuma. However, instead of using the usual bush path, Alartey took a different route, which led to the tragic incident.
The source reported that upon reaching the middle portion of the road, Alartey attacked his wife and daughter with a cement block, killing them on the spot. A hunter who heard the noise and screaming appeared at the scene, and Alartey asked him to lead him to the police station to report the incident. However, when the hunter refused to take the lead, Alartey allegedly hit him on the head with another cement block, leaving him unconscious.
Alartey then used his cutlass to slash the hunter’s head, causing a deep cut, and took the hunter’s gun before fleeing the scene. The two children who witnessed the incident ran back to the town to report the case, and the police rushed to the scene.
The police source confirmed that Alartey is currently at large, and the Bobikuma Police are seeking information on his whereabouts. The bodies of the two victims have been deposited at the Agona Swedru Municipal Government Hospital for autopsy.
