The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has expressed his elation following the victory of President-elect John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 general elections.

Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, made his remarks on December 9, shortly after the Electoral Commission declared Mahama as the winner of the presidential race. His speech reflected the immense pride the NDC felt over their hard-fought win against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), marking a historic moment for the party.

“I believe that the party has never seen this level of total mobilization of its rank and file to fight and achieve a purpose. At long last, the battle has ended, and the great elephant has been slaughtered mercilessly,” he said, referencing the NPP’s symbol and their defeat.

The NDC Chairman also took the opportunity to extend special praise to the technical team at the party’s headquarters for their critical role in managing the election campaign. He specifically acknowledged the work of the directors of elections, IT staff, and all other individuals who contributed to the success of the campaign.

“I want to specially commend the technical staff of our headquarters, who managed this election very, very successfully. I mean the directors of elections, directors of IT, and all other persons who played roles in this success,” he stated.

Despite the excitement over the victory, Asiedu Nketia urged party members to approach the celebrations with modesty and focus on the significant responsibilities that lay ahead.

“Let me advise that we should be modest in our celebrations because I can almost feel the weight of responsibility on our shoulders. Ghanaians have given us this mandate to accomplish the task of national reconstruction,” he said.

Asiedu Nketia reminded the NDC leadership and supporters of the high expectations placed on them by the Ghanaian people, stressing that they could not afford to disappoint those who had entrusted them with the mandate.

“We cannot afford to disappoint them,” he concluded.
