“‘I’m a Retired Army General Returning to Lead Ghana to Victory” – Mahama
- Mahama calls himself "retired general"
- Vows to fix Ghana's economy
- Seeks Imams' support
John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has compared himself to a “retired army general” returning to active service as he campaigns for reelection in the upcoming general elections.
During a meeting with District and Municipal Imams in the Ashanti Region on Monday, 2nd December 2024, Mahama outlined his commitment to addressing the pressing challenges facing Ghana.
As part of his six-day campaign tour, the former President criticised what he called the current administration’s economic mismanagement and governance failures. He vowed to provide leadership that would guide the nation toward recovery and progress.
“I know that many of you pray for us and give us guidelines to follow. I thank every one of you for your prayers,” Mr Mahama said, acknowledging the support of religious leaders in the country.
The former President also assured the Imams that, if elected, he would focus on implementing sound, pragmatic policies designed to restore stability and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.
“During my leadership, I will ensure that the needs of all citizens, including marginalised communities, are addressed,” Mahama added.
He further urged the Imams to support his vision for a better Ghana, stressing that his experience and determination made him the best candidate to navigate the country’s current challenges.
“If we go to war, and we encounter difficulties, we go back to call the retired general to come back and lead us. This is a clear illustration of myself because I am a retired general and I went to rest, but it is time to come back for we are in a difficult period, so my party has nominated me to lead the party,” Mahama stated.
