Four Dead as Boat Capsizes on Volta Lake
- Four dead in Volta Lake boat accident
- Two survivors hospitalized, four missing
- NADMO leads search and recovery operation
Four individuals have tragically lost their lives following a boat capsizing incident on the Volta Lake. The boat, carrying seven young men, was traveling from Agbega Porpornya to a neighboring community in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern Region, according to a report by Accra-based Starr FM.
Of the seven passengers, three survived the ordeal. Two of the survivors are currently receiving medical treatment at the Asesewa Government Hospital. However, four individuals remain missing, prompting an ongoing search and recovery operation.
The operation, which is being led by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), is supported by local volunteers in the area.
This tragic incident underscores the ongoing dangers posed by travel on the Volta Lake. Over the years, similar accidents have resulted in the loss of many lives, highlighting a persistent safety concern.
One of the key risks remains the lack of life jackets for community members living along the lake. This absence of safety equipment continues to pose a serious threat, particularly to women and children who regularly use boats for transportation.
