A renewed clash between feuding factions in Bawku, Upper East Region, has claimed the life of a man in his early 60s, identified as OB, a beggar. This brings the total number of fatalities to 22.

The violence erupted after Seidu Abagre, allegedly illegally enskinned as Bawku Naba in February 2023, returned to the town on October 24. His presence sparked gun battles, claiming lives and injuring many.

In response, the government imposed an indefinite 12-hour curfew from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, effective October 28. The Deputy Minister of Interior, Hon Naana Eyiah, stated that Abagre’s presence poses a significant threat to public safety.

The conflict escalated on October 27, with gunmen blocking the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway and opening fire on vehicles, killing eight people.
