Kasoa, in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, is grappling with a cholera outbreak that has resulted in five fatalities and left 30 others hospitalized.
The affected individuals have been admitted to Kasoa Polyclinic and the Mother and Child Hospital.
Municipal Chief Executive Anita Love Obo Amissah confirmed the fatalities, stating that three of the victims died on Thursday night, with the remaining two passing away on Friday afternoon.
In an interview with Adom News, the MCE revealed that the number of infected individuals rose from 20 to 30 by this afternoon. She urged Ghanaians to exercise caution to prevent further spread of the disease.
“I commend the healthcare workers at Kasoa Polyclinic and Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital for their relentless efforts to save lives,” she said.
Madam Amissah also noted that some patients from the Gomoa East District, which lacks adequate hospital facilities, have been referred to Kasoa Polyclinic for treatment.
Meanwhile, Municipal Environmental Officer Godson Lodo has advised the public to be cautious about purchasing food from unsanitary sources to prevent further cholera cases.
