The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements during demonstrations in the country. This warning comes after GAF noticed a growing trend of individuals wearing unapproved military uniforms while providing security for public figures, despite previous warnings.

GAF expressed concerns that this practice not only poses a significant security risk but also has the potential to tarnish the image of the military. The unauthorized use of military uniforms has been observed during protests and around illegal mining areas, also known as Galamsey sites.

According to GAF, this trend is increasing despite ongoing education and warnings. The military noted that some individuals wear these uniforms to impersonate military personnel, which can draw the military into disrepute and create a sense of insecurity in the country.

GAF emphasized that the unauthorized use of military uniforms is in contravention of the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967, which states that no person shall wear or use any military uniforms, equipment, or accoutrements unless they are a member of the Armed Forces of Ghana.

The decree also prohibits the sale or purchase of military uniforms and equipment without authorization. Those who contravene this decree are liable to a fine or imprisonment.

GAF warned that it will take decisive actions against those who violate these regulations, including arrest and prosecution. The military urged the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorized military attire.

The public’s cooperation is essential in upholding peace and security, especially as the country approaches the 2024 general elections. GAF reassured the public of its commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining the territorial integrity of Ghana.

The military’s concerns are not unfounded, as the unauthorized use of military uniforms can be used to perpetuate crime and create confusion among the public. GAF’s warning serves as a reminder to the public to respect the military’s uniform and equipment.

GAF’s statement also highlighted the need for the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities. By working together, GAF and the public can maintain peace and security in the country.

GAF’s warning against the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements is a necessary measure to maintain national security and uphold the integrity of the military. The public’s cooperation and vigilance are crucial in enforcing this regulation.
