NDC Pledges to Revitalize Cocoa Industry – Sampson Ahi

Story Highlights
  • NDC promises cocoa sector revival
  • Fair producer prices for farmers
  • Revival of free fertilizers and incentives
  • Pension scheme for cocoa farmers

The Member of Parliament for Sefwi Bodi Constituency, Mr. Samson Ahi, has made a bold promise to cocoa farmers, assuring them that the next NDC government will restore the cocoa sector to its former glory. Speaking at Elluokrom in the Bia West Constituency during the Western North Regional campaign tour of NDC’s vice presidential candidate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Ahi criticized the current government for exploiting cocoa farmers by paying them a meager producer price compared to the global market price.

Ahi highlighted the achievements of the former Mahama administration, which paid cocoa farmers 70% of the world market price as producer price, in addition to providing free fertilizers, cocoa roads, and other incentives. He vowed that the next NDC government would continue this trend, paying cocoa farmers a fair and reasonable producer price.

Moreover, Ahi promised that the next Mahama administration would revive the free fertilizer program and supply improved seedlings to help cocoa farmers boost their yield. This move aims to empower farmers and enhance the overall cocoa production in Ghana.

In a groundbreaking move, Ahi announced that the next NDC government would introduce a pension scheme for all cocoa farmers to support them during retirement. This initiative would provide financial security and stability for farmers in their golden years.

Ahi’s promises were met with enthusiasm from the cocoa farmers, who have been struggling under the current government’s policies. He urged the electorate to vote for NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections. By doing so, Mahama would be able to revive the cocoa sector and prevent the collapse of the Ghana Cocoa Board.

The cocoa sector is a vital part of Ghana’s economy, employing millions of farmers and contributing significantly to the country’s GDP. However, in recent years, the sector has faced numerous challenges, including low producer prices, inadequate resources, and lack of support.

Ahi’s assurances have sparked hope among cocoa farmers, who believe that the next NDC government would prioritize their needs and well-being. With the promise of fair producer prices, improved resources, and a pension scheme, farmers are optimistic about the future of the cocoa sector.

The NDC’s campaign promise has also sparked debate among political analysts, who argue that the party’s track record on cocoa production and farmer support is impressive. The former Mahama administration’s achievements in the cocoa sector are often cited as a model for successful agricultural policy.

As the December 7 general elections approach, the fate of Ghana’s cocoa sector hangs in the balance. Cocoa farmers, who are a significant voting bloc, will be watching closely to see if the NDC’s promises materialize.

Mr. Samson Ahi’s promises to cocoa farmers have generated significant interest and enthusiasm. If the NDC’s campaign promises are fulfilled, Ghana’s cocoa sector may once again thrive, benefiting farmers, the economy, and the country as a whole.
