Ghanaian rapper Amerado has addressed the timing of his song “Date Rush,” which he released shortly after King Paluta’s popular track “Makoma.” In the wake of his release, some social media users criticized him for not waiting to capitalize on the buzz surrounding King Paluta’s song, fearing that it would overshadow his own.

Speaking with Joy FM’s Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z, Amerado provided insight into the situation, clarifying the context behind both releases.

“Myself and my team, we have plans. Sometimes people make it seem they think about you more than you think about yourself, which is very bad,” he stated. Amerado explained that he originally intended to drop a song featuring King Paluta on the same day that “Makoma” was released. “Paluta told me he was going to drop a song on that day. So I agreed that he should release his song on that day so that I drop mine a week after his,” he recalled.

The “Kwaku Ananse” hitmaker emphasized that he could not alter his plans based on the release strategies of other artists. “I am not a magician; I didn’t know ‘Makoma’ was going to be too big,” he said. “The fact that ‘Makoma’ took over doesn’t mean that it should mess up my plans. Because out of all the big songs I have dropped, including ‘Abronoma,’ the ‘Date Rush’ song has the most interactions on TikTok.”

Amerado further remarked that the success of King Paluta should not hinder the recognition of his own work. “The fact that we are playing King Paluta doesn’t mean we cannot play ‘Amerado.’ We cannot play one person’s song all the time. Also, not every song will be a monster hit. Even with the likes of Daddy Lumba and Amakye Dede, some of their songs are bigger than others,” he noted.

In addition to addressing the release timing, Amerado recently launched a new 5-track EP titled “The Gold Coin.”
