A family vacation to Walt Disney World turned into a nightmare when a five-year-old boy, Ernesto Tagle, experienced a cardiac arrest while riding the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster.

The incident occurred on September 21st, during what was intended to be a fun-filled day at the theme park. Ernesto’s parents, Christine and Ernesto Tagle, found themselves frantically trying to revive their son after he lost consciousness during the ride.

“I was screaming, hitting him, and saying something’s wrong,” Christine told Fox 35. “It was terrifying.”

With the help of a nearby nurse, EMT, and Disney employee, Ernesto was able to be stabilized and transported to the hospital via helicopter. After undergoing extensive testing, he was diagnosed with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), a rare heart condition that can trigger sudden cardiac arrest during times of stress or excitement.

The Tagle family shared their harrowing experience on social media, including photos of Ernesto in the hospital. Despite the ordeal, Ernesto has since recovered and is back home with his family.

“We just feel so lucky this didn’t rob us of his smile and energy,” Christine said, expressing gratitude to those who helped save her son’s life.
