The Ghana-Nurse-Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) is demanding immediate payment of 12 months of unpaid allowances owed to rotational nurses and midwives.
In a statement released on Sunday, September 29, the GNMTA highlighted that despite completing their mandatory one-year service, many nursing and midwifery interns have yet to receive their due allowances.
This delay has caused significant financial hardship and emotional distress among the affected individuals.
Although the allowances were increased twice between September 2022 and 2023, some interns have still not received the full amount.
The GNMTA is calling on the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, and the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to:
- Resolve the discrepancies in the allowance disbursements.
- Pay the correct amounts to the interns, including any arrears.
- Provide clear communication regarding the allowance structure to prevent future confusion.
The GNMTA is urging the relevant authorities to address this issue promptly and ensure that the rotational nurses and midwives receive the compensation they rightfully deserve.
