Trump Labeled ‘Unfit’ as 700 Security Officials Endorse Kamala Harris

Story Highlights
  • Harris leads Trump in swing state polls.
  • Over 100 former Republicans endorse her.
  • Trump is labeled "unfit" for office.

A coalition of former senior national security leaders has officially endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, labeling her opponent, Donald Trump, as “impulsive,” “ill-informed,” and “unfit.”

On Sunday, the National Security Leaders for America issued a statement endorsing Kamala Harris, signed by over 700 members. The letter characterizes Donald Trump as “unfit” for the role of Commander-in-Chief and a threat to democracy.

“This election presents a choice between serious leadership and vengeful impulsiveness; between democracy and authoritarianism. Vice President Harris upholds America’s democratic values, while former President Trump jeopardizes them,” the statement asserts.

The nonprofit identifies itself as a bipartisan group made up of retired generals, admirals, senior noncommissioned officers, ambassadors, and prominent civilian national security leaders

The statement highlights Trump’s false claims of election fraud and his efforts to undermine the peaceful transfer of power to Joe Biden in 2020. It emphasizes that he has shown “no remorse” for his actions leading up to the January 6 Capitol attack and has made it clear he would not accept the results of the 2024 election if he were to lose again.

“This alone demonstrates that Mr. Trump is unfit to serve as Commander-in-Chief,” the letter asserts.

The contrast is stark, as the letter notes: “While Vice President Harris is prepared and strategic, Mr. Trump is impulsive and ill-informed.”

The statement further points to Trump’s frequent praise for dictators and authoritarians, including Xi Jinping of China, Kim Jong Un of North Korea, and Vladimir Putin of Russia.

In contrast, the statement highlights that Trump has adopted an adversarial stance toward the leaders of key allies, including the U.K., Israel, Australia, Canada, and Germany.

The letter endorsing Harris was signed by 741 individuals, including general officers and former high-ranking national security officials. Among the signatories are those from Republican administrations as well as notable Democrats like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.

While the members may not see eye to eye on every issue, the letter emphasizes two core principles: the necessity of a “serious and capable” leader for America’s national security and the invaluable nature of American democracy.

The National Security Leaders for America was established in 2021 with the mission of protecting democracy, as noted on its website. The group is dedicated to endorsing candidates who uphold these principles, irrespective of their party affiliation.

Since Harris became the Democratic Party’s nominee, she has gained momentum in the polls and is generally outpacing Trump in crucial swing states. Additionally, she has garnered support from over 100 former Republican officials who signed a letter labeling Trump as “unfit” for office.
