Police Ready for Democracy Hub Protest, But…

Story Highlights
  • Police are prepared to secure the protest
  • Assessment indicated that the protest could disrupt public order
  • Democracy Hub organizers are set to meet with police on September 20

The police have expressed their readiness to ensure security for Democracy Hub’s upcoming three-day street protest, but they oppose the planned location at Revolution Square, situated directly across from the Jubilee House.

During a press briefing on Thursday, law enforcement clarified that they haven’t halted Democracy Hub’s protest plans.

Instead, they’ve invited the organizers to discuss alternative venues for their demonstration, scheduled for September 21-23, 2024.

The Ghana Police stated that after receiving notice from Democracy Hub on July 9 about the planned protest at Revolution Square, they conducted an assessment of the site.

They concluded that hosting the protest there could potentially disrupt public order and safety.

In light of these concerns, the police have urged the organizers to consider a different location to ensure the safety and smooth operation of essential services during the protest.

The organizers have agreed to meet with the police on September 20 to discuss this matter further.
