NPP Backs Voter Register Audit, Urges Legal Compliance
- NPP backs calls for auditing the voters register
- Kodua Frimpong stresses the need for accuracy in the electoral process
- Corrections to the voters register must follow established legal procedures
Justin Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has clarified the party’s stance on the call for an audit of the 2024 voters register.
Justin Kodua Frimpong affirmed the NPP’s support as long as it adheres to legal protocols.
He emphasized the need for transparency and accuracy but insisted that the Electoral Commission (EC) must follow the law in addressing any discrepancies.
His comments came in response to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which recently held nationwide protests on September 17, 2024, under the slogan “Enough is Enough.”
The NDC is advocating for a forensic audit of the voters register and the EC’s IT systems, citing alleged inaccuracies.
In a recent interview, Mr. Kodua Frimpong acknowledged the legitimacy of the NDC’s concerns but reiterated that the EC has historically operated within legal guidelines.
He stressed that maintaining this legal framework is crucial as elections approach to ensure fairness and integrity.
“We’re not opposed to the EC correcting any mistakes in the voters register, but those corrections must occur through the proper legal channels, as outlined during the voters register exhibition exercise,” he stated. “The law is clear, and the EC has consistently followed it to rectify any errors.”
