A tense confrontation erupted between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region on Monday morning.

The clash centered around the commissioning of machinery for the District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP), a crucial development initiative in the area.

The conflict began when NDC supporters took issue with the display of images of Bismark Basie Nkum, the NPP’s Gomoa West parliamentary candidate, on the DRIP machinery.

The NDC supporters questioned the decision, arguing that it was inappropriate to politicize the commissioning ceremony.

The disagreement quickly escalated, with tensions running high between the two groups, almost leading to a physical altercation.

Bismark Basie Nkum, who also serves as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, made a startling allegation against Richard Gyan Mensah, the Member of Parliament for the area.

According to Nkum, Mensah brandished a pistol and issued threats against the NPP’s local leadership during the heated incident.

A viral video circulating on social media captured the DCE accusing MP Richard Gyan Mensah of pulling out a gun and threatening NPP supporters.

The incident has raised concerns about the rising tensions between the two parties in the lead-up to the elections.

The police are yet to comment on the matter, but the incident has sparked widespread condemnation from political leaders and citizens, calling for calm and restraint.
