Akufo-Addo Warns Parties on Election Results

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has issued a stern warning to political parties ahead of the December 7 polls.
Speaking at the 2024/2025 Annual General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, the President emphasized the importance of allowing the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare official election results.
The conference was held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.
Akufo-Addo cautioned political parties against announcing election results before the EC, stressing that this could lead to confusion and misinformation.
He noted that such actions could potentially spark conflicts, undermining the peace and stability of the country during and after the elections.
The President reiterated that only the EC is mandated to declare official election results, emphasizing the commission’s impartial and independent role.
Akufo-Addo stressed that the EC’s role is crucial in ensuring that election results reflect the will of the people, free from partisan influence.
He emphasized that assigning responsibility to the EC is essential to maintaining public trust in the electoral system.
The President warned that allowing political parties to declare election results could lead to the spread of unverified or false outcomes, undermining democracy.
Akufo-Addo’s caution is seen as a measure to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process, with the EC’s independence and impartiality being key to achieving this goal.
