- MP accuses NDC of causing more water pollution.
- GBA President calls comments "irresponsible".
- Urges collective action on environmental issues.
The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has strongly condemned recent remarks made by Member of Parliament Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip, accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of causing more water pollution during their tenure than the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The GBA President described Annoh-Dompreh’s comments as “irresponsible” and called for a unified national effort to address the pressing issue of illegal mining.
Annoh-Dompreh made the remarks during an emergency parliamentary sitting on September 3, suggesting an investigation would show the NDC was responsible for greater water pollution.
However, Yaw Acheampong Boafo condemned the comment, stating it was “shocking and regrettable” to politicize the crisis.
He emphasized that every issue should not be reduced to partisan point-scoring.
The GBA President spoke at the association’s 2024/2025 annual general conference, where he addressed the issue.
He expressed concern that such statements from leaders could further divide the nation.
Boafo urged for collective action to address the environmental impact of illegal mining.
The GBA President’s condemnation highlights the need for a bipartisan approach to tackling Ghana’s environmental challenges.
