Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Alex Ampaabeng has assured Ghanaians that the government has made significant progress on its promises and remains dedicated to achieving even more.
During the Eastern Region Townhall Meeting in Koforidua on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Dr. Ampaabeng highlighted the government’s key economic achievements and ongoing efforts to enhance the lives of citizens.
He emphasized the positive outcomes of recent economic policies, noting a strong recovery trajectory from the disruptions of 2020 and 2022.
“We have delivered, and we will continue to strive for more on your behalf,” Dr. Ampaabeng told the audience. He detailed improvements such as a decreasing inflation rate, increased GDP growth from 3.8% in Q4 2023 to 4.7% in Q1 2024, and a notable trade surplus, which collectively demonstrate the government’s commitment to effective economic management and the welfare of Ghanaians.
Dr. Ampaabeng also reported a significant reduction in inflation, from 54% in November 2022, exacerbated by global crises like the Russia-Ukraine war and the COVID-19 pandemic, to 20.9% as of July 2024. He expressed optimism about reaching the end-of-year target of 15±2.
Additionally, he highlighted the stabilization of electricity supply as a key achievement, underscoring that businesses now operate more reliably and households experience consistent power, crucial for economic stability and growth.
Minister for Information Fatimatu Abubakar also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of town hall meetings in fostering government transparency and accountability. She noted that these meetings are vital for bringing governance closer to the people, allowing direct interaction with officials, and ensuring citizens are informed about government initiatives.
The Eastern Region Townhall Meeting, held at the Centre for National Culture in Koforidua, is part of an ongoing series of such events designed to promote citizen engagement and inclusive governance.
