Jermaine Jenas has expressed deep regret and shame over his termination as a BBC presenter, admitting to sending “inappropriate messages” to two colleagues on The One Show. In an interview with The Sun, Jenas acknowledged his actions were a “huge error of judgment” and apologized for letting everyone down, including his family.
Jenas, 41, was sacked after allegedly sending inappropriate messages to a female colleague. The BBC has not disclosed further details about the allegations. Jenas maintains that he “did nothing illegal” and that the messages were sent to “two consenting adults.”
The former Match of the Day and One Show host described his actions as “cheating” and acknowledged that he had fallen below the standards expected of him at the BBC. Jenas is receiving therapy and has accepted his mistakes.
“I feel so ashamed. I’ve let everybody down – my colleagues, my friends, and most importantly, I’ve let my family down,” Jenas said.
The issue was brought to the BBC’s attention a few weeks ago, and Jenas was informed of his termination during a video call on Monday while on a family holiday. The BBC confirmed his departure on Thursday, stating, “We can confirm Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting lineup.”
Jenas denied sending explicit pictures or videos and expressed remorse for his actions. “I owe everyone an apology, especially the women I was messaging. I am sorry for what I have put them through.”
The news of his dismissal broke while Jenas was presenting on talkSport Drive, where he refused to comment on the allegations. His profile has since been removed from his agent’s website, and talkSport has announced that he will not be broadcasting as a presenter in the immediate future.
Jenas’s future with other broadcasters, including TNT Sports and Formula E, remains uncertain. A spokesperson for Formula E stated that the presenting lineup for the next season will be announced “in due course,” taking into account the high standards expected of their presenters.
