In a bold and unapologetic declaration, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made it clear that his party will not relinquish power to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December polls, even if it means sacrificing peace. Speaking at a mini rally in Takoradi on Saturday, August 17, ahead of the party’s manifesto launch scheduled for Sunday, August 18, Mustapha emphasized that the NPP values peace, but not at the expense of its political power.

“We will not sacrifice power on the altar of peace,” Mustapha told the cheering crowd. “We will not submit, we will not be cowed, prevented, or pushed. We will not be intimidated by the NDC’s tactics.” Mustapha’s statement is seen as a direct response to the NDC’s claims that the NPP is planning to rig the December polls. The NDC has been accusing the NPP of using underhand tactics to maintain its grip on power.

But Mustapha dared the NDC to take any necessary actions, confident that the NPP has the strength and the resources to counter them. “If the NDC believes they are stronger than us, they should dare in this election and they will see that we have the men,” he said. Mustapha also used a metaphor to drive home his point, referencing his physical strength. “Look at my muscles, these muscles are natural, my muscles are full of bones,” he said, flexing his arms. “We’re not afraid of the NDC.”

The NPP’s National Youth Organizer emphasized that his party is committed to peace and the progress of the country, but will not be forced out by any tactics. “We’re for peace, we like peace, we’re for the progress of the country,” he said. “But we will not be pushed out by any form of tactics. Ghanaians will make their choice and vote for the NPP.” Mustapha’s statement has been seen as a battle cry by the NPP, and a clear indication that the party is prepared to do whatever it takes to maintain its grip on power.
