Two cousins, Abubakar Munkaila, 23, a student, and Abdul Kadir, 22, a driver, have been charged with murder at the Ho Magistrate Court.

They are accused of fatally assaulting their roommate, Marwan Alhassan, in Ho Sabong Zongo on August 5 after accusing him of stealing their money.

The court, presided over by Albert Annor Owusu, heard that the violence erupted around 10 p.m. when the cousins confronted Alhassan at a local pub. Munkaila reportedly began beating Alhassan to force a confession, and Kadir joined in.

After receiving a phone call suggesting that Alhassan was fleeing with their belongings, the cousins pursued him, continuing the assault. Munkaila used his fists, while Kadir used a belt.

The victim was left severely injured, bleeding from his mouth and nostrils. Despite being rushed to the Ho Teaching Hospital by two local residents, Alhassan was declared dead on arrival.

The hospital notified the police, leading to the suspects’ arrest the following day. In their statements, the cousins admitted to the assault.

The court has remanded the accused in custody until October 15, and Alhassan has since been buried.
