Manchester United have strengthened their defensive options with the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

The duo, who previously worked under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, have both penned long-term deals at Old Trafford.

De Ligt has signed a five-year contract, while Mazraoui has committed to a four-year deal, with both including the option for an additional year.

The combined fee for the pair is expected to reach around £60m, with De Ligt the more expensive of the two.

The 25-year-old centre-back is seen as a key addition to the United backline, bringing experience and leadership qualities.

Mazraoui, a versatile defender capable of playing both right-back and left-back, could be thrown straight into action to cover for the injured Luke Shaw.

Both players expressed their delight at reuniting with Ten Hag, who played a pivotal role in their development at Ajax.

The signings represent a significant investment by United as they aim to challenge for domestic and European honours.
