“I am not Eyeing any Political Position, I Just Want Mahama to Win” – KOD
- Kofi Okyere Darko denies interest in political position if NDC wins
- Says his priority is to ensure John Mahama's victory in the election
- Reveals he lost hope in NPP after they failed to keep their promises
Ghanaian broadcaster and creative entrepreneur, Kofi Okyere Darko, has dismissed speculation that he may be eyeing a political position if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the upcoming election.
In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, KOD emphasized his primary goal is to ensure John Mahama’s victory. “I am not looking at that at all. For me essentially, I want this government and John Mahama re-instated as the President of the Republic,” he stated.
When asked if he was an NDC member or just endorsing the party, KOD replied, “It was more of an endorsement, but if you saw the fugu that I was wearing…” He added, “I was supposed to be NDC. I’ve worked at Radio Gold, for God’s sake. I mean, no one was hired on political basis for getting a job at Radio Gold. It never happened. But somehow, you get to understand how things work in that space.”
KOD also clarified that he has not considered entering mainstream politics. “It’s not an area I have critically thought of. But I mean, we’ve always served for what we do in the creative space. We are public servants as well, so if I have to serve in that space, why not?”
Kofi Okyere Darko publicly endorsed John Mahama on July 27, 2024, during the NDC’s 2024 official campaign launch in Tamale. He stated, “Today, I stand in front of you as Ghanaians with the strong conviction that we need that change that we have been yearning for, and that is why I stand today to endorse His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the next President of the Republic of Ghana.”
KOD revealed that he previously supported the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2007 and 2015 but lost hope when they failed to keep their promises.
