Bryan Acheampong Addresses Controversy Over Campaign Remarks
- Bryan Acheampong clarified his statements
- "The NPP has refrained from reacting to bold predictions"
- Bryan Acheampong reiterated that the NPP’s focus is on winning elections through votes cast
Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong has clarified that his recent statements at a campaign event were not intended to provoke violence among the youth.
Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi, had declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would employ all necessary measures to secure victory in the upcoming December 7 elections.
His comments led to concerns and calls for caution from various quarters.
In a subsequent interview, Acheampong explained that his remarks were meant to emphasize the NPP’s commitment to utilizing every strategy available to win the elections.
He referenced previous statements made by opposition figures, highlighting that when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made bold predictions or suggestions, the NPP did not react strongly.
Bryan Acheampong argued that election victories are determined by votes cast and counted, and criticized the double standards applied to his own statements about the NPP’s determination to win.
“Omane Boamah said the NDC would fight for political power and secure 57.3 percent of the vote. The NPP chose not to respond to such claims, understanding that these statements are often inconsequential,” Acheampong said.
He further explained, “When the NDC suggested we should be passive and accept their terms, we did not engage in the same rhetoric. Instead, we focus on winning at the polls. If the NDC’s strategies are acceptable, then why is there concern when I express our intent to win the election?”
