Drivers’ License Renewal Period May Be Extended – Bawumia

Story Highlights
  • Bawumia proposes longer Drivers' License renewal period.
  • He wants to reduce hassle for drivers, like with Passports.
  • $10 million for Geological Survey Department to improve mineral exploration.
  • Chiefs to get equity stake in small-scale mining operations.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has proposed an extension of the periodic renewal of Drivers’ Licenses.

The current renewal period is two years, but Dr. Bawumia suggests increasing it to reduce the hassle drivers face when renewing their licenses.

He drew an analogy with the Passport, whose validity has been extended for greater convenience, and promised that a Bawumia Presidency will extend the validity of Drivers’ Licenses beyond the current two years.

Dr. Bawumia made this pledge while addressing chiefs and stakeholders at Boadua in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region.

This was part of his constituency-focused nationwide campaign tour, where he engages with local leaders and communities.

The NPP Presidential Candidate emphasized the need to reduce the burden on drivers, who often face challenges renewing their licenses within the short two-year period.

Dr. Bawumia also proposed an allocation of at least $10 million annually to the Geological Survey Department.

This funding will enable the department to identify the actual locations of minerals, moving away from the current “trial and error” approach that harms the environment.

Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia promised that his government will ensure an equity stake for chiefs in future small-scale mining operations.

This move aims to recognize the role of traditional leaders in mineral resource management and ensure their benefits from mining activities in their areas.
