ECG Warns Public Against Fake Meters
- The use of fake meters is illegal and poses significant safety risks
- Fake meters contribute to significant revenue loss for ECG
- ECG urges customers to obtain meters only through official channels
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a stern warning to the public about the increasing sale and use of counterfeit meters in the Ashanti Region.
The power distributor expressed concern over the distribution of fake meters in its operational areas and vowed to take action against those involved.
Recent seizures of substandard meters at checkpoints and bus terminals highlight the scale of the problem.
ECG’s Ashanti-West General Manager, Maxwell Dapaah, emphasized the dangers of bypassing the company for meter installation.
He warned that fake meters are not only illegal but also pose safety risks, such as fire outbreaks and power surges.
Dapaah urged customers to obtain meters only through official ECG channels and to report any suspicious activity. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with ECG’s efforts to combat this issue, emphasizing the importance of paying electricity bills to maintain a stable power supply.
