Conor Gallagher Set To Join Atletico Madrid From Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has agreed to join Atletico Madrid, bringing an end to his 18-year stint at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old England international informed Atletico officials on Sunday night that he is willing to make the move, following Chelsea’s acceptance of a £33m offer from the Spanish club last week.
Gallagher is expected to fly to Madrid to complete his medical and sign a contract, finalizing the transfer.
The move comes after Chelsea offered him a two-year deal with an option for an additional year, which Gallagher deemed unfavorable due to the contract length and limited squad role.
A stylistic mismatch had emerged between Gallagher and Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca, who favors a possession-based approach.
As a result, Gallagher was unlikely to be a regular starter under Maresca.
With less than a year left on his current Chelsea contract, Gallagher’s departure was inevitable.
Chelsea opted to sell him to Atletico rather than an English rival, allowing the Spanish club to secure a cut-price deal.
Gallagher, who played five matches at Euro 2024, is now set to embark on a new chapter in his career with Atletico Madrid.
